CCC Race Experience

What a beautiful and tough race. From the start until halfway, everything felt manageable. I had taken 7 gels mixed with real food as planned. Coach and Rus advised me to take 1 gel every hour with real food, and I prepared my nutrition and pace carefully so I could sustain them.

But after 54km, when I saw Rus and Sting waiting for me, things changed. My stomach started to get upset I couldn’t take any more gels without feeling like I would puke. Even the rice I tried to eat was hard to keep down.
It was tough because I really wanted to do well. I kept thinking, what’s the point of training so hard if I don’t see results?🥺 I had a goal time, but I couldn’t control how my stomach reacted. I felt so disappointed that I cried while running😢

After 54km, I changed my shirt. The weather suddenly shifted it became rainy and windy. I had to stop several times to put on my waterproof jacket and pants. At that point, I already wanted to stop at the next aid station where I had support, because I couldn’t eat and I knew it would take me so much longer.

At the second support aid station, I cried when I reached the table. I couldn’t move as fast as I wanted. I watched others enjoying their food while I thought, Sana all makakain. The only things my stomach could handle were biscuits and warm water. I told Rus and Sting that I wanted to DNF because I had no energy left but they told me, It’s ok, you can walk all the way to the finish line. Just don’t give up.

At the last support aid station, the weather was brutal. I had to put on my second and third layersfleece, waterproof jacket, leggings, pants, and even three pairs of gloves. I was freezing cold, hungry, and exhausted. All I could do was pray Lord, please help me finish and give me strength to handle this hunger until the end.

Thanks to everyone who cheered me on as I ran through the breathtaking landscapes of Courmayeur, Switzerland, and Chamonix.🏔️🙌🏾🙏🏾
